Personal trainer app with Apple Watch — heart rate from every session, recorded

The Apple Watch integration is not a badge on a store listing: there is a Personal Buddy app for the watch. Your client starts the session from their wrist, sees their heart rate there while they train, and every reading is saved. In your follow-up you get the average, the peak, the low, and the heart rate chart for that session.

How it works, step by step

Your client signs in on the iPhone app first. The current program travels from there to the Apple Watch, which is why the phone login comes before the first workout on the wrist.

On the watch, starting a set opens a strength-training workout and begins reading heart rate. Every new reading is saved to your client’s account with the time it was captured. When they finish, the session’s average heart rate and calories are stored on that workout record.

  • iPhone sign-in first; the watch receives the program after that
  • Heart rate visible on your client’s wrist while they train
  • Readings stored with timestamps, session by session
  • Average heart rate and calories saved when the session ends

What you see in your follow-up

On the client profile, in the session history, and on the training calendar, every workout done with the watch carries the average, peak, and lowest heart rate, plus a chart of heart rate across the session.

That is what turns “how did training go?” into a conversation about the session that actually happened: where the heart rate climbed, where it dropped, how long it stayed high. You also get an in-app notification when your client starts a session and when they finish it.

  • Average, peak, and lowest heart rate per session
  • A chart of heart rate across that workout
  • Available on the client profile, the session history, and the calendar
  • In-app notifications when a session starts and ends

Convenience, not a lab

The gain here is convenience and context. Your client uses the watch already on their wrist, with no extra gear to agree on before the session, and the reading arrives in the same place you already check the program, the session, and the load.

We do not treat this as a laboratory measurement. The app records and displays the heart rate the watch sensor reported during the session — no calculated zones, no automatic intensity alerts.

Runs, rides, and other cardio outside the program

The iPhone app can also import activities recorded in Apple Health — runs, rides, walks — along with the average heart rate for that activity, and they appear on your client’s training calendar. Workouts done inside Personal Buddy are excluded from that import so the same session is not counted twice.

What if your client has no Apple Watch?

Training works fine without one. iPhone has the native app; on other phones the workout opens in the browser, and in that case there is no heart rate, because the data comes from the watch.

There is no Wear OS or Android watch integration today. Apple Watch is a bonus for clients who already own one, not a requirement.

Frequently asked questions

Do I see heart rate live while my client trains?
The live reading is on your client’s wrist, on the watch screen. In your follow-up you get that session’s heart rate — average, peak, low, and the chart — on the workout record, plus in-app notifications when the session starts and ends.
Do I need an Apple Watch to use Personal Buddy?
No. The watch is optional: programming, the client app, session logging, and load history all work without it.
Does it work with an Android or Wear OS watch?
No. The watch integration today is Apple Watch. Android clients train in the browser as usual, but without heart-rate data.
Does my client need the App Store app?
On iPhone, yes: the native app is what carries the program to the watch, and the sign-in has to happen there first. The App Store link is on the site and in the invite.
